I'm at the point in my card playing life where I only play Holdem tournaments (minimum investment for maximum playing time and $ return), so my "key" might not fit regular table play -
The key to winning fro me is "patience" Grasshopper, "patience".
Other players might read this and say "Tell me something I don't already know", but practicing patience is much harder than knowing about it.
I'd hate to think of the number of times I lost $ because I had a great ,JT or QJ or KQ suited and ignored the raise of some other player and the actions of other players, only to fold after the flop.
I'd hate to think of the number of times I lost bercause I chased a great looking hand all of the way to the river, while some other player was milking me for all of my $.
I'd hate to think of the number of times I lost because i folded 10 times in a row with hands like 27 off suit, and then got a J9 suited and went with it because I finally got a decent hand.
When I sit back and follow the rules, and practice patience, I nearly always come into the $ - and I come in first, second or third every 15 or 20 games - I've actually built up bankroll. The odds are on your side if you practice patience.
There's no insatnt gratification in Hold'em, so the key is "patience grasshopper, patience!
